Making Maps

Maps can help to share ideas and explain viewpoints. They can start conversations, help us to navigate from A to B, and show us shapes and patterns we can’t always see ‘on the ground’.

I particularly love theory of change and systems maps. I’ve even developed a new kind – a Butterfly Map.

A Butterfly Systems Change Map puts helpful and unhelpful factors on different sides, to clarify patterns and support decision-making.

Take a look at this example setting out the argument for supporting people working in the voluntary sector as a whole with their wellbeing, resilience and flourishing. Or, you might also be interested in this map telling a similar story, based on the perspectives of people working within a single national charity.

You can leave comments directly on the map, or share them privately via the contact form
